Time Zones

Time zones are set by account administrators in the Dashboard settings.

Overview

Time zones in Text Request determine how automatic features function. Features like the Autoresponder and scheduled messages will adhere to the time zone that dashboard is set to.

A dashboard can only have one time zone, but each dashboard within an account can have different time zones. Only Admins can change a dashboard's time zone, but all users can view the set time zone by clicking on the dashboard selector.

To change your time zone:

1. Go to Dashboards.

2. Select the time zone dropdown next to the dashboard you want to update.

3. Select the new desired time zone.

4. Changes are saved automatically.

Time Zones and Abbreviations

Text Request offers all time zones found in North America. Due to some areas observing daylight savings time, while others don't, we use the shortened version of a time zone (PT instead of PST). Our system updates automatically for when time zones are observing daylight savings time or not.

  • ALT - Aleutian Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-10:00)
  • HST - Hawaiian Standard Time (UTC-10:00)
  • AKT - Alaskan Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-9:00)
  • PT - Pacific Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-8:00)
  • MST - (Arizona) US Mountain Standard Time (UTC-7:00)
  • MT - Mountain Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-7:00)
  • YT - Yukon Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-7:00)
  • CT - Central Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-6:00)
  • CST - Canada Central Standard Time (UTC-6:00)
  • ET - Eastern Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-5:00)
  • AT - Atlantic Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-4:00)
  • NT - Newfoundland Standard/Daylight Time (UTC-3:30)
  • UTC - Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-0:00)

Adding a Dashboard

When adding a new dashboard, regardless if you select a new number or provide a current one, the system will default to the time zone associated with that number's area code. This is usually accurate, but in the event it is not, you can manually select the time zone for that dashboard before continuing.

Time zones do not have to match area codes if you don't want them to.

New Dashboard Time Zone

User vs Dashboard Time

Time zones can be confusing, so if you have users in different time zones than the one the dashboard is set to, it is very important they know what time zone the dashboard is using.

Example

User:  Pacific Standard Time (PT)
Dashboard: Eastern Standard Time (ET)

The user wants to schedule a message to send at 10:00 AM PT (their local time). They would need to schedule the message for 1:00 PM ET. This is because the dashboard is set to ET, which is 3 hours ahead of the user's local time zone.

Luckily, the message scheduler has a reminder of the dashboard time zone built in.
